The end of her chancellorship and with that new leadership in Berlin, injects a degree of uncertainty on both sides of the Atlantic about the general course and the new champions who may fill the gap her departure will create.<\/p>\n<p>The 2008 financial crisis, Brexit, the pandemic and the rise of authoritarian regimes have challenged the values of the European Union.
